On Sunday, September 7, 2025, the atmosphere at Mukono Retreat Gardens in Nasuti was electric with spiritual excitement as Healing Outreach Ministries International (HOMI) officially launched its newest branch, HOMI Church Mukono. The event marked a significant milestone in the expansion of HOMI Churches and brought together believers, ministers, and leaders from across Uganda and beyond.
This landmark occasion was not merely the opening of a new church building—it was the unfolding of a divine assignment. Under the spiritual leadership and oversight of Maama May Kawaala, the Overseer of HOMI Churches worldwide and Guest Speaker of the day, the launch carried a profound sense of purpose and prophetic destiny. Her presence and message brought authority, hope, and healing to all in attendance.
Teaching: The Heart of David and a Call to Spiritual Yearning
Maama May Kawaala’s message centered on Jesus’ words in Matthew 11:28–30: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…” But she went further, illustrating her teaching with the biblical example of King David, whom God described as “a man after His own heart.” She emphasized David’s deep yearning for God as a model for spiritual intimacy, noting that this desire is expressed clearly in the Psalms:
-
Psalm 63:1: “O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.”
-
Psalm 42:1–2: “As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and appear before God?”
-
Psalm 27:4: “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord and to inquire in his temple.”
She reminded the congregation that just as David longed for God with all his heart, believers today must cultivate a personal, passionate relationship with Him. Maama May also highlighted other biblical examples of men who sought God earnestly:
-
Moses, who spoke with God “face to face, as a man speaks to his friend” (Exodus 33:11).
-
Abraham, called a “friend of God” (James 2:23) for trusting and obeying God.
-
Enoch, who “walked with God” for 300 years and was taken by Him without experiencing death (Genesis 5:24).
-
Daniel, who prayed three times daily, facing Jerusalem despite grave danger (Daniel 6).
Through these examples, she emphasized that HOMI Church is called to be a place where the weary, the rejected, and the overlooked can come to encounter God personally and intimately. She challenged leaders and ministers to serve with compassion and humility, warning against pride or spiritual complacency.
Commissioning of Pastoral Leadership
A central moment of the launch was the commissioning of the new pastoral leaders of HOMI Church Mukono. Pastor Alex Namujulirwa of HOMI Church Nansana shared a powerful vision for the ministry’s future in Mukono before leading a moving prayer session for Pastor Vincent Mubeezi and his ministers, officially handing over the certificate and letter of acknowledgment. This act symbolized both spiritual commissioning and a passing of the mantle.
Pastor Vincent Mubeezi, together with his wife, Pastor Joan Mubeezi, now lead this growing spiritual family with humility and warmth, welcoming the congregation with open hearts. Their servant leadership reflects HOMI Church’s core values of compassion and care. Pastor David Light Mukisa of HOMI Church Lubiira also participated, underscoring the unity and shared purpose across HOMI Churches.
A Community of Faith and Healing
True to HOMI’s culture of hospitality, attendees were treated to refreshments and light meals, while the day was filled with laughter, fellowship, and testimonies. HOMI Church Mukono is quickly becoming known not just as a place of worship, but as a family, a refuge, and a place of restoration for the hurting.
Maama May concluded with a prophetic challenge: “Some of us have become too comfortable because we’ve already received what we once cried for. Now that you have received, don’t forget to lift others. Ministry is not a stage; it’s service. It’s not about perfection but compassion.” Her words were a call to humility, submission, and active love—a reminder that church is not about religion but about carrying Christ’s healing presence.
A New Era in Mukono
HOMI Church Mukono now stands as a beacon of healing, restoration, and divine purpose. Under the leadership of Pastors Vincent and Joan Mubeezi, and the spiritual covering of Maama May Kawaala, this church is poised to impact not just Mukono but the nation.
To those seeking rest, spiritual growth, or a place to belong, HOMI Church Mukono extends an open invitation: a home for the broken, a training ground for ministers, and a refuge for all seeking God’s presence.
